Of all the people in Texas, Bro was probably the most preparedly unprepared person. He had the goddamn survival guide, bought it a long time ago and read it for ironic purposes. Crossed out sections, added his own thoughts, pretty much came up with the best damn survival plan ever just because he could. But that was before Dave came along. So when it finally did happen, everything he'd ever had planned was suddenly not good enough. Suddenly it all had to be better, had to be flawless. There couldn't be a thing out of place.
But of course there was a thing out of place and he couldn't get the apartment barricaded before it was too late. Those goddamn zombies were faster than he expected. They took over too damn fast. So he ran. He took Dave and he ran and everything was going good. He found a place. An abandoned warehouse, totally cliche and yet perfect to stay in. He barricaded it good. Made sure it was perfect. And then he could finally rest. It felt like days since he'd had any sleep- and it had. That was catching up to him fast.
"We're safe here, little man..." he said, plopping himself down on the floor. He'd been able to find one blanket, which he was keeping for Dave. He didn't need one. "I dunno about you but I'm fuckin' beat..." It was all over his voice, the tiredness. But he didn't sound reluctant. It was all worth it. Dave was worth it. He curled up on the floor and lay his head on his arm, reaching up to pull his cap down over his eyes a little. His shades stayed firmly in place. "I think I'm just gonna have a little nap..." And even as he said it, he was dozing off.
